Breaks willing to pay to keep away drillers
Fallen leaves crunch underfoot. Birds sing. A squirrel chatters in the distance. And water babbles along in the rock-strewn stream that carved out what is billed as the largest canyon east of the Mississippi River.
Breaks Interstate Park is a place of quiet solitude, except for the music of nature, and the commission that operates the remote getaway on the Kentucky-Virginia border is willing to pay to keep it that way.

Wanting justice for an adult survivor of incest!!
Hello, my name is Tina I am a incest survivor. I finally found the courage to press charges against my father. I went to the Richmond state police and filed charges against my dad for sexual abuse. The main reason I decided to do it now is because I found out that my dad has his two young kids living with him. He has a daughter, 13, and a son, 10. They also have the same stepmother that I had when I was living with my dad. I told my stepmother about the sexual abuse and all she said was that she believed me because my dad had tried to do something with her sister. She continued to stay with him and she also told my dad about me telling her. I think she should be prosecuted just as my dad should.
I know there is at least two other victims of my dad. One is my stepsister, who is deaf, she stayed with us on the weekends when I was a child. I woke up one night and seen my dad on top of her. I have tried locating her but haven't had much luck. I don't think the detective on my case has put much effort into finding her. Through my search for my stepsister and the biological mother of the kids my dad has, I found another victim of my dad. She is my dad's niece. Lisa, the mother of the kids Don(my dad) has is his stepniece, the sister of the other victim I located.
I called the detective working on my case and gave him Irene's (victim) phone number because she was willing to make a statement about her abuse. Everytime I tried to call the detective he wasn't on post, I would leave a message and he wouldn't return my phone calls. I even had an attorney I have been talking to in Ky call him. The det. never returned her phone calls either. After trying and trying we both finally got a hold of him on the same day. He told me that everytime he tried to contact Irene she was never home. He told me to tell Irene to call him. Whenever I got off the phone with the det. I called Irene. I didn't have any problem getting a hold of her. I told her to call the det. as soon as we got off the phone before he left his post, because if she didn't who knows when she would talk to him.
I talked to the attorney about what the det. told her. She said that he told her he had his doubts about whether my story was true. He said the reason was because I waited so long to come forward. It has been 17 years since my last incident of abuse from my dad. She told the det. that most sexual abuse survivors never come forward and the reason I did was to try and protect those kids my dad has.
I have talked to the mother, Lisa, and she has MS and is in a wheelchair. I don't know if this had anything to do with her not getting custody of the kids. She told me that my dad said when his daughter was 5 that he wanted to be the first man to be with her. She said that she wanted to see Don pay for what he has done but she doesn't want to be involved. The reason is because if nothing becomes of this case she is afraid that Don won't let her see her kids anymore. I know this is against the law but my dad has never followed any laws. He has been doing whatever he wants to people for a very long time. He has been physically abusive to all his wives, but all of them were to afraid to go to the authorities about it. Children services came to my house once when I was about 15, my school called them because I had a lot of bruises on my legs. From what I remember they talked to me right in front of my dad and stepmom, so of course I didn't say anything. After they had left my dad took it out on my stepmom. He cut her above where your breast are, he also stuck a broom handle up inside of her. I talked to my stepmom about a year ago about my dad and his two kids. She told me that my dad couldn't even get it up anymore. I told her he didn't need that to be able to sexually abuse a kid.
The det. has went and talked to my dad and stepmom. Of course, they didn't admit to anything. My stepmom told them that I had always hated my dad. She told them that the only thing I ever told her was that my dad tried to do something to me. He also talked to the daughter and she said that her dad hasn't done anything to her. I called children services and filed a complaint myself, even though the police had to contact them when I pressed the charges. I called them back about 2 weeks later to find out about the investigation and they said that my complaint didn't meet the criteria for them to do an investigation. The reason is because the detective had all ready talked to her. I told them that the det. is a man that is over 6' tall and a very big man, she was probably intimidated by him. After making phone calls to whomever I could think of about children services they finally went in and did their own investigation and the girl still said nothing.
I have contacted the mayor and the commissioners there in Richmond and none of them have ever responded. At least they could contact me and say they couldn't do anything about it. I just want to say that the attorney that has been helping me in Ky has really been so wonderful. I am not paying her and she is doing whatever she can to help me. She is a criminal defense attorney. She calls me on the weekend and on holidays to keep me informed with what she knows. She is even talking to a friend of her's that is a civil attorney because she thinks I may have a civil case against my father.
The detective and the commonwealth attorney are suppossed to meet on September 19 to discuss my case and see if they what to take my dad to court. I really hope they do because I have been working so hard on this case. I feel like I have done more investigating than the police have. They have alot more resources than what I have. I feel like if they would of put a little effort into they could of found my stepsister, Donna. I wonder how many other victims of my dad's are out there. I contacted quite a few talk shows and a couple of news stations in Ky and have yet to here from either. Hopefully posting this here will help people see how our system sucks for the victim. It is made for the abuser, so they can get away with whatever they want to. I see why people are afraid to come forward about their abuse.
